Tangled
In a house of girls with long hair, I am all too familiar with the word Tangled.
For years the bathroom shelves have been lined with detangler spray, detangler brushes, tangle free rubber bands, every conditioner known to womankind….We've discussed the dangers of chewing gum, weve used peanut butter to get said gum out of hair, we’ve cut out many a vacuum brush and cleaned out the shower drain. We know all of Disneys Tangled songs by heart. (and yes still quote the movie)
Alllll the hairS. All the girl things. All the Hair ties, ribbons, shoe laces, hair bows, necklaces…
Speaking of which….
I’ve had this particular tangled mess of jewelry sitting on my vanity for weeks now staring back as if to say ‘Hi! untangle me already so I can be worn again…’
And every time I want to wear this necklace, I think grrrr I can’t because it’s still tangled! Really need to untangle that when I have time…..
I remember the day at the gym, thinking I’ll just drop this in my purse pocket. It’ll be safe, I won’t have to worry about it. (not realizing other jewelry was in there) Not a big deal.
It doesn’t look like much but, let me tell you…one quick act cost this girl a lot of patience to untangle these stinkin chains.
I bent over the counter slowly taking it one teeny tiny step at a time. What struck me was how quickly they ended up that way, and how slowly it took to untangle the mess.
How often we get tangled up in things that weren’t meant for us. Poor choices made in a second, and years to undo.
Sometimes never.
Angry words hastily spoken that can never be taken back and a lifetime to repair the damage done. It takes so much time to undo, redo, repair, restore.
And yet, God rich in mercy…. because of the great love with which he loves us, even when we were (tangled up) and dead in our sins….makes us alive with Christ. (untangled!)
Patiently straining his back, helps us detangle the mess we got ourselves in. Slowly stretches, gently pulls. Through grace saves us…raising us up so we can be used again.
And THIS is the gift of God. Not of ourselves, but His patient handiwork. 🪴
What are you tangled up in lately? Who are you tangled with? Any messes you think are impossible?
Good news is, there’s this Jesus guy. You may have heard of him. He heals, saves, detangles for a living. Look to Him. He’s patient, and gracious nomatter how many times we mess up. Let him detangle your life. Let Him free you.
Stay tangle-free friends!🪴
